I worked with producer Noah Weinzweig before and was a big fan of Manufactured Landscapes (2006), his previous collaboration with Edward Burtynsky and Jennifer Baichwal. For their new documentary they had filmed the construction of an enormous dam in the south of China. Almost a year down the line this dam was about to be flooded and they wanted this process in their film. I had just finished a big time lapse project and was thrilled at the idea of applying the technique in a unique narrative.
I set up five cameras to document the changing landscape, constantly running between them to make sure they were not running out of battery or full of water. I made two trips, with some months in between, to get the final result a filled up dam. The water rose more then a hundred meters in close to two months.
It was a great experience to work with the Watermark team and it was an honor to contribute to the project.
